What Are the Clair (Psychic) Senses?
What are the clair senses? Psychic medium Amy Brookes explains clairvoyance, clairaudience, claircognizance, clairsentience and more.
The clair senses, also called the psychic senses, are your five senses turned inward: sight, hearing, feeling, knowing, smell and taste from within. "Clair" is French for "clear." I use all of them every day as a psychic medium, usually blended together, and I believe we all have them.
Clairvoyance: Clear Seeing
Clairvoyance is inner seeing. The difference from imagination is that with imagination you are actively thinking about something. With clairvoyance, an image just pops into your mind, like a movie, and you weren't thinking about it at all.
In a reading, spirit shows me details of a loved one: an older man with gray hair and a comb-over, twirling his mustache, or a baseball hat with a specific logo. It helps the client say, "Yes, that's my dad."
Tip: keep an evidence journal. Write down every strange vision, sound or dream, and revisit it later. The puzzle pieces come together and your confidence grows.
Clairaudience: Clear Hearing
This is hearing something that isn't outside of you: your name called, a song lyric, or ringing in the ears. In mediumship, about 99% of the time I'm not hearing a voice outside myself. I hear my own head voice, with a knowing that the message comes from someone else. Spirit communication is telepathic, so language is never a barrier.
Claircognizance: Clear Knowing
An inner knowing, the gut feeling. You don't know how you know, but you do, like suddenly knowing you should slow down on the highway, and then finding a police car around the bend.
Clairsentience: Clear Feeling
This goes beyond empathy. You blend with someone's energy so much that you feel what they feel. Spirit uses it in readings to convey emotions like love or remorse, and parents often use it with their children. If this sounds like you, read my post on the top 5 signs you are an empath.
Clairgustance: Clear Tasting
Tasting something without eating it. Imagine peeling and squeezing a lemon and you can probably taste it. In readings, I might taste tiramisu, and the client tells me it was their loved one's favourite. Spirit works through your medium's own frame of reference, which is why I say the spirit world chooses a medium for you.
Clairalience: Clear Smelling
Smelling something that isn't there. When I get a whiff of burning wood, my favourite smell, I know my dad is visiting. If you smell something that reminds you of a loved one and can't find its source, that's a sign. You don't have to learn this one, only remember that it's there.
Imagination or Psychic Information?
If you are intentionally trying to picture, taste or work something out, that's imagination. If an answer appears in the shower or on a walk when you weren't thinking about it, that's information coming from outside of you.
We all have an outer and an inner navigational system, and we need both. There's nothing woo-woo about it.
